Description
Westminster Abbey's north front with the triple porches was restored to a design by the Abbey Surveyor, Sir George Gilbert Scott, between 1875 and his death in 1878, and completed by his son, John Oldrid Scott, after his death, finishing in 1883.
The front had become very decayed so Scott restored it. The floriated ironwork, by F.A. Skidmore, and wooden doors, by Messrs Piersey, were inserted in 1881. The stonework carvings were by Messrs. Farmer and Brindley but some restoration was done in the 1980s.
The rosette/flower design around the doors mimics the diaper work designs on stonework inside the Abbey. The two carvings of the church could represent the north front with turrets either side of the main gable.
Pierced earrings are non-returnable due to hygiene reasons.
