Description
An elegant Jacquard woven wall tapestry. Embellished with a medieval style acanthus border. The original tapestries are the most celebrated set that have survived from the medieval period. They consist of six, now in the Cluny Museum Paris. Depicting the five human senses & the sixth called "To my only desire". Designed in Paris & woven in Brussels around 1470 by Williem de Pannemaker for Jean Le Viste (arms shown on the tandards), whose family originated from Lyon & served Charles VIII. Note the`mille fleur' (thousand flowers) covered with tiny flowers, among which can be seen pansies, violets & primroses & periwinkles. Our extract shows the Lady smelling a flower, depicting the sense of smell.
Tapestry composition 80% cotton 20% viscose woven on a Jacquard loom by Master weavers.
