Description
This hand-made decoration is inspired by one of the Abbey's most prominent symbols; the beautiful Fleur de Lys that adorn the Henry VII Lady Chapel ceiling. The Fleur de Lys symbolises Henry Tudor's connection to the royal line through his grandmother and is repeated throughout the chapel from the from the stone carvings to the gilded ceilings. The origins of the Fleur de Lys can be traced from the French Royal standards dating around 1137. Edward III of England [1340] embraced them to represent his claim to the French throne & the motif still remains in the British coat of arms.
