The Westminster Abbey website is run by three linked organisations: the Dean and Chapter of Westminster Abbey, the Westminster Abbey Foundation (which carries out fundraising for the Abbey) and Westminster Abbey Enterprises Limited (which operates the shop). When we say 'Westminster Abbey' or the 'Abbey' we mean all three organisations acting together. When you complete a form on this website, make purchases in our shop or contact the Abbey in other ways you provide us with a limited amount of information in order to help us respond appropriately.
The Abbey looks after the information it holds about you, and respects your privacy. We take appropriate security precautions to prevent your information being lost or falling into the wrong hands.
We make sure that the information we hold is as accurate as possible; we do not hold more information than we need; and we do not hold it longer than we need to.
We use information you give to us to carry out our obligations arising from any orders for products placed by you and to provide you with any other information, products and services that you request form us. In some cases we pass your data to external services (Paypal, Sagepay) in order to process your transactions on our behalf. If you sign up for our e-newsletter, your data is shared and stored securely with Mailchimp.
Apart from that we do not give your data to anyone else without your permission, unless we believe it is the only way to prevent harm to you or other people. If we do disclose information without your permission, this is authorised by a senior member of staff, and we will explain our reason to you at the earliest opportunity.
The data we collect from you may be transferred to, and stored at, a destination outside the European Economic Area (EEA) that may not have the same level of protection as countries within the EEA. It may also be processed by staff operating outside the EEA who work for one of our suppliers. Such staff may be engaged in, among other things, the fulfilment of your order, the processing of your payment details and the provision of support services. By submitting your personal data, you agree to this transfer, storing or processing. We will take all steps that we consider are reasonably necessary in the interests of your data being processed securely and in accordance with the Privacy Notice when transferred outside of the EEA.
We will use your information in order to respond to you. If you sign up to our e-communications (a regular newsletter to tell you about, for example, shop news and promotions, activities at Westminster Abbey you may be interested in, and ways that you can support the work of the Abbey) you can change your preferences or unsubscribe at any time. You can do this via a link in our e-communications, or contact us by email, phone or letter
In order to keep your information as secure as possible, the shop site encrypts data using SSL and HTTPS. However, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be totally secure. As a result, whilst we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information which you send to us, and you do so at your own risk. Once we have received your information we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access.
