This design is an extract from The Lady and Unicorn Tapestries.
A graceful Jacquard woven cushion cover by Master Flemish weavers, in a fine textured weave. The original tapestries are the most celebrated set that have survived from the medieval period. They consist of six, now in the Cluny Museum, Paris.
Depicting the five human senses and the sixth called "To my only desire". Designed in Paris and woven in Brussels around 1470 by Willem de Pannemaker for Jean Le Viste whose family originated from Lyon and served Charles
VIII. Note the 'mille fleur' among which can be seen: pansies, violets, harebells and periwinkles.
